Problem converting .TS video file

I recently recorded an over-the-air TV show using a USB antenna and the software that was included has a "capture" feature. So I recorded the show, and the "capture" has absolutely no parameters or options that I could find, and a 54min show ended up being 7.75gb at 1920x1080 in .TS format. I have tried converting it to AVI XVid/DivX, and the video converts fine (most of the time), but the audio ends up being WAY out of sync. This has happened with 3 different video converters, other converters error out or simply cannot convert .TS files. Anyway, I have perfectly re-synced the first 45sec or so, but at about the 1min mark, it goes out of sync again. I'm thinking that I'll simply chop off the opening 90 seconds since there may be some type "glitch" that throws the sync out of whack.....

.... any thoughts, suggestions, etc will be appreciated!

    THX!

I'll have to try that next time.... I eventually got the sync problem fixed in a REALLY roundabout, messed-up, time exhaustive method.... I wish I would have check this thread about an hour earlier! :banghead

Since many other converters weren't working right, I decided to use a trusted program that I haven't used in a while mainly because it's quite a bit slower than most converters (but the conversions are EXCELLENT), I used Dr.DivX to convert the .TS to a decent smaller resolution, and therefore a smaller file size (about 600mb vs. 7.75gb), it crashed when trying to remux the audio stream with the video stream. I took a peek at the Dr.DivX settings to find the "temp work" folder; in that folder I found the audio stream as a separate MP3 file and the video stream as a separate AVI file (this is good!). Using MediaInfo, I found that the audio stream was 3.3sec longer than the video stream. This explains the audio sync problem (the video converters were trying to fit the audio stream in to the shorter video stream which resulted in a sync problem). I then used VirtualDub MP3 Freeze to join the video stream with the audio stream (the audio stream is now constant because it was extracted from the .TS video by Dr.DivX). The audio was now exactly 3.3seconds off. Before, the sync was not bad early in the video, but it got worse and worse and worse as time went on. When the audio sync problem is constant, fixing it is relatively easy using the "delay" feature in AVI-Mux GUI. At this point, it took maybe 3 or 4 tries to get it perfectly right using minor delays or "negative" delays to get the sync dialed in.

This ended up being MUCH more work than necessary. Thanks to pistol's suggestion, maybe next time it won't be so frustrating and time consuming.

(BTW - VirtualDub MP3 Freeze is old, maybe 8 or 10 years old! But it works great (even in X64 Win7) with odd audio streams, variable bit rate audio streams, and videos with generally jacked-up audio streams; I think that NanDub does the same thing, and is quite a bit newer, but I was familiar with the audio flexibility of VDub MP3 Freeze so I used it instead)

OOOOPS! The link above for AVI-Mux GUI is messed up.... here's the correct functional link: http://www.alexander-noe.com/video/amg/

NOTE: if using 64bit Win7 (and maybe with 32bit Win7), when you install Dr.DivX, you have to use WinXP SP3 compatibility mode and run as Administrator, and be sure to install the DivX Codec before installing Dr.DivX...... Dr.DivX works with any "official" DivX codec from 6.0 and up. I already had the 7.0 release installed and it worked perfectly. When installing the DivX codec, you will be prompted to install a bunch of trial-ware from DivX, like a converter, a DivX web player, etc. I recommend that you opt-out of these and install only the codec. Dr.DivX does NOT recognize DivX "compatible" codecs like those included in most codec packs, including any of the Shark007 packs, the KLite packs, etc. You MUST use the "official" DivX codec.
