    Hi everyone

I keep getting messages like this on my desktop with windows xp professional on it and I dont know why. I figured somewhere an important system file has been corrupted or something or do you think it could be hardware related? It happens randomly. There is no pattern. It usually only happens when I do something though.

I have tried inserting a windows xp disc to repair windows using steps online which should be showing up but it isnt giving me the option to repair windows. Only to format it.

Here is a picture of the most common error

    Thank you

    Hi

What Service Pack is your XP at?
Have you installed any new software just before this happened and if so what, could be an app or driver?

Try booting into Safe Mode (F8 at boot and choose Safe Mode with networking) does that help?

It seems to likely be from the screenshot a hardware driver that maybe causing this, but some applications have device drivers also so can you run the steps HERE and zip up your minidump files and attach (info on how to attach is in the guide)

cant boot to the operating system or hard drive

Hi everyone. I have been trying to fix this computer because of an error which I think is a driver problem someone told me and did everything in my power not to touch the hard drive. Now the computer wont boot to the hard drive, it just freezes before it gets there. I am running windows xp professional service pack 3. Thank you

Yes, it could be hardware. I suspect your hard drive is not being detected.

A simple fix, replace the ribbon cable connecting your hard drive to the motherboard (yup, these do go bad). If that doesn't seem to solve the problem, your hard drive could be dead. To test this, you'd need to hook it up by a USB adapter to another computer. If the other computer doesn't see it or wants to format it, it could be dead.
