I hope I'm posting this in the right place..I'm new.

We have an HP Touchsmart computer with Win 7 and it always seems to have issues when we get pushed software updates from Microsoft, Java, etc. Last week, there was some software update (unknown) and the computer has gone nuts. I tried system restore, but all restore points have disappeared. I ran my antivirus and it found nothing..I loaded another antivirus (Avast) and it found nothing. I also ran PC doctor which said there were disk errors it couldn't fix with index files..but when I ran chkdsk, it found no errors.

Problems are..super slow bootup and response time launghing programs, etc...loss of internet "The windows wireless service is not running on this device", not properly launching programs like excel (intermittent), etc. The problems seem to often be preceeded by a strange screen refresh that darkens the screen for a moment or flickers the taskbar...then everything starts to freeze up.

    Any ideas?

System: Windows 7 home premium SP1
    64 bit operating system
    4 GB RAM
Hard drive is not even close to full

Did you uninstall your previous anti-virus first? (Before loading Avast)
You may have a lot of programs starting at boot which can slow down your boot process.

Can you follow the instructions at the below link:

    Using MGtools
Then attach C:\MGlogs.zip to your next message (How to attach items to your post)

Doing this, I can see if there any obvious signs of malware and I'll provide you with some tweaks which should improve start-up.

Hi..thanks for the help. I'd done a few things that made the problem seem to go away for a week or two, but now it's back. I'm pretty sure I have malware or something because again, my system says there are no system resotre paoints (when I checked and had some the other day) AND..my newly loaded antivirus (Avast) has now been 'disabled' somehow so it will not start, etc.

I ran the tool you told me too, but I'm not sure it finished running..it seemed to hang. I ran in normal windows..was I supposed to do it in Safe Mode? Here are the logs I got...
