Problem installing Java

    Please help - when I try to download and install Java I keep getting this message
    "Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths is valid." Any help on understanding what the above means would be much appreciated and how to solve my problem....thanks in advance... (nb nickson2 my sister cant help). Im a complete novice.

    OS WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION VERSION 2002 SERVICE PACK 1
    CELERON (R) CPU 2.40GHz
    224MB OF RAM AND 60 GB HARD DRIVE
