Problem loading HP Scanjet G3010 on Vista SP2

I have HP Officejet J5780 and Scanjet G3010. Recently had to uninstall and reinstall them due to a problem with incoming faxing via J5780 often being frozen out. In the meantime I've upgraded Vista to SP2. Have reinstalled the two HP devices, beginning with J5780, in both cases using CDs that specified Vista, but G3010 does not work - it runs mechanically when I turn on the computer and shows up on a "Vista readiness" check but it does not register on Windows device checks and does not work.

For what it's worth, the fax problem relating to J5780 appears to have been fixed.

What can I do to remedy this problem with G3010?

The first reference has updated drivers from Nov 2007 for Windows 7 and Mac, on CD only, and a recent patch of some sort if tablet drivers are used (I'm not aware that such is the case). I had already tried the latter and it apparently is not working, and in fact had used the former (which is dated easily 6 months before purchasing my installation CD) in attempting to reinstall G3010. The second reference deals with Officjets rather than Scanjets and in fact verifies that my Officejet is in good shape.

Could it be that the G3010 (scanner) system should be installed prior to installing J5780 (all-in-one)?

In a perfect world, no. Ive had plenty of trouble with scanners, however I wonder (aloud) if your all in one, which means it has a scanner, is conflicting with your scanner? Do you need a scanner if you have an all in one printer, or am I spacing out? We have an all in one, it scans, faxes, prints and so on, so we would not add a scanner to the mix? God, let me be right, but if your basically running 2 scanners, 1 is a big enough pain, 2 can be a major conflict.

The G3010 scanner (which actually had been linked to PaperPort, which since the reinstallation does not recognize it) has a capacity for larger documents whereas the J5780 combo can only take a letter-sized (8 1/2 x 11) document and because it opens at the side rather than at the end (flatbed) cannot take a book.
