    Hi to all. After going through all the steps in the spyware removal post, I'm having problems with the Sun java install. The java cup icon is missing from my control panel, yet it is in my system tray. When I look for the icon on my page from their website I get a red x. Testing this further I went to Yahoo's game page and found nothing but red x's. I checked IE and my settings seem correct. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it 3 times. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

    firstly go to IE -tools-and see if the sun java console is in there if not go to the advanced tab and check to see if either sun java or micrsoft Vm ,should be in between the http and multimedia settings, also check your security tab going through the settings .another thing you could check is your download program files IE-general setings -view objects and see what you've got in there ,these all come in to play as you browse various websites tell me what you have installed in there.
    spyware can mess about with your IE settings big time and its often a case of going through each setting with another machine buy your side checking the tick boxes.are the same

    Hi Simonk, I went into IE and all my settings were fine. I didn't think to look into my program files. Here is what I found:

    C:program Files/Internet Explorer--> Connection Wizard (folder), mui (folder), SIGNUP (folder), PLUGINS(folder)-empty, hmmapi.dll, iexplore.exe, iedw.exe.

    *plugin folder empty, all others containing various files.

    C:program Files/Java-->jre1.5.0_01 (folder)-->bin (folder), lib(folder), CHANGES, COPYRIGHT, LICENSE, PATCH.ERR, README.txt, 3RDPARTYLICENSEREADME, WELCOME.html.

    btw, sun java console is in my IE tools, and only the sun java is listed in the advanced settings.

    Thanks

    Well, Jujet, since I couldn't get it to work for me, I uninstalled it. Someone sent me a link for the msjvm and I reinstalled that. Did it solve anything?...No. :rolleyes:

    For some reason, I can't get the file to open successfully and activate the java. Its just sitting there in my program files...*blast it.

    Hi, Simonk, I didn't think of doing that...hmm. Its worth a try. Maybe I need to graduate from the older version first. Go figure.

    Is it really necessary to remove your 'existing' (such as it is) java before installing a new one?

    It's not necessary to uninstall Microsoft java, to install Sun Java.
    In my case after I installed the Sun Java, I uninstalled the micro java,seeing as they are not going to be doing any more improvements.
    Now back to your problem go to Control Panel/ open up your Java icon.Go to/ Tab Advanced/scroll down to Applet-open up the crosss hair and see if your browsers are checked
    Almost forgot after your done go here to test your Java

    Bear with me... I uninstalled MSJVM using the tutorial here,then I installed the Sun java. I had problems with that so I uninstalled it and reinstalled MS with a link someone sent me.

    Now, I'm wondering whether or not I got the 'real thing'. There are no java icons in my Control Panel or my system tray. Secondly, there is no java listed on my advanced tab in internet options in IE. What I do have is "Apycom Java Menu and Buttons" listed in Add/Remove Programs and its folder in Program Files. I clicked its 'msjavx86.exe' to install, but a popup came up saying my security settings wont allow it. Incidently, upon checking my Program Files, I noticed that the sun java didn't do a complete uninstall. The folder is still there.

    I went to the sun java site and tested my system. A box with a red x appeared.... :(

    What next? I'm contemplating installing the earlier version of sun java per Simonk's recommendation.

    Hi.

    'jview' is not recognized an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file.

    This is the message I got.

    hmm...

    Well I believe the mess your in now I'd start over and do system restore

    System Restore is always an option...but I'm kinda leery of it. The last time I used it, it wiped out my whole system and I had to a reinstall XP...hmm

    If I choose that route, I'll backup everything first. When you say 'mess', how bad is it? :eek:

    Nice site. Yes, I did all accordingly. I've used System Restore before and had no problems. However, last time something went wrong. Please refer to my first post in this forum, "should I delete Windows folder?" Just click on my name.

    *sorry, I tried to copy and paste the link to the thread, lol....still gotta lot to learn...... :p

    On another note, after going through the 'read me first' tutorial, Panda found 3 viruses in my system volume information folder. Maybe that had something to do with it.

    Either that or its a glitch in System Restore. I came across another similar instance on this site when I did a search on system restore.

    Ok, I'll read over the instructions and do a little more research. Then I'll back up everything and go from there. I just wish there was a simpler solution. Thanks for all your advice and time. :D
