Problem opening files

Hi

I'm having trouble with trying to open any file the message is C:\ProgramFiles\CCleaner.exeThis file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in Set Associations in control panel.
Every icon is changed to CCleaner file. I can't even run this file CCleaner.

Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?

The issue is a loss of file association with .exe files and this should help with that HERE (Vista and Win7) and HERE (XP)

Problem could also be Malware related so have you done any Malware scans and if not I would run the below and if the guide steps find anything then start a new thread in our malware forum and attach the logs.

Hi DavidGP

I have windows 7 and I have been working through your suggestions with the same message appearing on all prompts the file does not have program association. This is where I up to so far.

Hi

Can you boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot and choose Safe Mode with Networking) and try the options out?

When did this start to happen and had you installed, updated or downloaded anything before it started, do you run registry and PC cleaning tune up applications at all?

Could if it works in Safe Mode revert back to an previous restore point, if that doesn't work if you have the Win7 DVD you could boot to that which should allow you to revert back to a previous restore point.

I have downloaded the ATF Cleaner and tried to run it with the same message appearing.
'This file does not have a program association with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Association control panel.'

I will continue to follow the steps but should the be some changed yet?

Hi

Try the attached file first, just double click it first to merge it with the registry as its a association fix to see if we can the the exe files to work.

Its a zip file and as you may not be able to right click and extract the file, just double click to open and then right click and choose copy, then paste it to your desktop, then double click the EXEFix file and merge with the registry, then reboot.

Hi

I have rebooted into safe mode and I am unable to do systems retore or anything it just keeps going back to CCleaner so everything opens in this. I am connected to the internet but can not connect I am on my other compter.

When I previously did this step of safe mode, I delete the individual icons that were all changed to CCleaner because the prompt said it would not delete the file. I don't know if this has added to the problem.

I have previously deleted Maleware. I can remember specifically what I have downloaded lately.

With I start up my computer now (not in safe mode) I get 32 immediate messages of;

C:\ProgramFiles\CCleaner.exeThis file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in Set Associations in control panel.
