problem playing millionaire

HI I have the game who wants to be a millionaire 1st ed. (Yes i know its old but i have it) But anyway i am trying to run it on my computer which has windows 2000 sp4 installed. Whenever I try to play the game and it is loading directx, i get an error saying "cannot load directshow" and does not load. Well i updated to the latest directx version. I dunno what to do for it to work? Can someone help me?

Well I have just installed the directx9.0 runtime enviorment so now i will try the game and see if it works...

 

Well its a no go cause it still does not work. Would you like me to tell you version info from EVEREST? maybe the game cant run on 9 or somethin too. I have no idea so if you can continue to help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Well I dunno what other information i can give. Is it possible that the directx it uses is so old that the game doesnt work because the directx is not compatible with it? Well anyway, heres my directx info from everest:

OPEN GL version: 1.10


I cant find the rest of the info in everest. Can someone tell me how to get directx information?

You type in dxdiag into run box and it gives you version info and settings for it.aybe you will find somthing there that will help.
You probably already know that though.

 

A lot of "older" games require certain codecs or filters, directshow being one of them.

It's more than likely you don't have the necessary codec/decoder installed.

 

Thanks for the info insomniac but now the question is, where do i go and make sure that this codec/filter/plugin whatever you want to call it is installed and put it on if it is not installed? Thanks for helpin me shed some light on this. I know i downloaded directx9c not too long ago from ms. But if anyone can tell me where to go to get directshow i would really appreciate it.

Don't take my word for gospel, as I was having an educated guess.

Anyway, you can get a directshow filter from HERE.

Also try the DirectX Diagnostic Tool as described above. Start, run and type in dxdiag then click OK.

 

Sorry for the slow reply guys, very,very long story. Long story short, hd blew and i had to put an new one in and reinstall everything and i just tried the game again and after it installed it prompted a restart which i did and i started back up, and got back into the system and tried the game and at this point im runnin directx 9.0a (im not updateing it scince it may start problems again.) and i attempted to play the game and it runs without any trouble at all. Go figure. Maybe the filter for directshow in directx was corrupted in the last setup of windows on here or something. Well it works now so thanks for the help.
