Problem Solved

I don't know if anyone has ever thought of this, and if they have I'm sorry for bringing it up again, but I think it would be really helpful if there was a button on the forums that said problem solved. This way once somebodies problem has been fixed the person who posted their problem could close their case so to speak. It would make helping people easier in my opinion.

What do you guys think? I know it's probably a stupid idea but thought i'd give it a go.

 

It's not a stupid idea. Many forums do this but it all depends on what the owners want to do. The thing that's nice about it is if I'm googling for a solution, I'd go to a page that showed solved and not waste my time with half done threads looking for a solution.

 

I think the deal was so many people start a thread with a problem, get an answer, and never come back to say if the recommendation worked or not. You then have no way of determining if the question was solved or just answered.

 

Sounds like a job for the Quality Assurance Mod to me

It wasn't posted, it was in a PM. Halo PM'd best wishes for the recent shuttle landing and inquired as to which landing site we wre going to have to land at due to weather concerns....hours after it had landed at Kennedy.

Just a response to the "Problem Solved" issue - I've always tried to go back to a thread I have started and post a 'conclusion" of sorts . . . be it a solution or last info on what I tried before throwing in the towel.

Like star17 and Halo were talking about, it would be hard to know if a persons problem was actually solved or not if such a generic "button" were provided.

. . . unless you also included an "I give up" button . . .

 

yeah there are several pros and cons to the theory of the button, mostly cons. I do like the I give up button though lol.

I've given up on people coming back to post results...many aren't considerate enough. So, I figure I either fixed their problem, or they took a sledge hammer to the PC.

Either way works fine for me as a conclusion.

 

If they don't post back in a couple of days, I just consider it resolved. Then if they post back a week later or something, I pick up where I left off.
