Problem W/airplane Mode After Win 10 Upgrade

After upgrade to Win 10 from Win 7 w/service Pack 1, I tried to sign into my Microsoft acct and was told I had no Internet connection. I checked and I showed that my Internet was connected, but I noticed that the Airplane mode was turned on. I went to Internet Settings/Airplane Mode and clicked on the button to turn it Off. It kept bouncing back to On.

I contacted Microsoft Help for Win 10 and spoke with 7 different people - they all said the same thing - "No worries" and proceeded to do all kinds of tests remotely. I was then told to reboot and given an ID # ans told this would get back to them - HA. I got another agent and of course, the agent I was talking to previously was not available. This happened each of the times I called them back.

The last one I spoke with said there must have been some corrupted files when doing the upgrade. and they said because the problem was more complex, I would have to pay $49 for a monthly contract or $199 for a yearly contract. As I already had a contract with my computer (Lenova) I decided to call them. I told them that I use Chrome as my preferred browser.

To make a long story shorter, they found that this only happens when using the Internet Explorer browser, but I can still use the Internet by using Chrome browser. The Airplane Mode still shows as being ON.

I had a couple of friends that this happened to and the only way it was resolved was to revert back to their old version.

I did the Upgrade to my laptop shortly after I rec'd the notification from MS, but I didn't want to do it to my desktop until I was certain I was happy with Win 10. I did the upgrade to my desktop on 5/14/2016 and that is when this all started.

Have you heard from anyone else about this?

Thank you for the fast response. I will try it on my desktop in a little while and will let you know how I make out.

Sorry it took so long to answer, but my hubby just came in wondering when dinner would be ready. Said his stomach thought his throat was cut. Anyway, I tried all the methods of the page you suggested and none of the worked. I also went to other sites that were recommended by people. Nothing is working. I can't get rid of airplane mode and get into some sites because they don't see that I have internet connected.
I'm really getting pretty frazzled and to make matters worst, I can't even go back to Win 7 because 0one of Microsoft's tech re-installed Win 10 when he was on remote. I saw a quick pop-up that said that but he whisked it away and started the re-install.

On your laptop press Fn key and the key with the Radio tower. On my netbooks it is either on the F2 or F3 keys. So I'd press Fn + F2 or Fn + F3 to turn airplane mode off - if I had it.

I am not on a laptop, but I tried Fn+2 - nothing, then Fn+3 this put the computer to sleep. I did see on the link that Max Turner gave me that they said to press Fn+PrtSc (one of the microsoft techs had me do this also) but that didn't work either.

Okay, I also have directions for a desktop. I read laptop and didn't see this is a desktop with the problem.
For starters, desktop computers should not have airplane mode at all. Why, because you aren't going to be lugging a desktop around. Apparently this has been a headache for desktop users since 2015 and MS doesn't seem to be addressing the problem.

I love it when a problem is solved. I'm a retired math(s) teacher so solving problems has always been a big part of my life - mathematical and other areas.

Now we celebrate with a hot steaming mug of coffee! :D

I have to tell you, I went back to the Microsoft forum that I was on and commented to someone that had the same problem. I explained as I did in my 1st post here and told them that I finally resorted to my favorite problem solver - Major Geeks Forum. I copied & pasted your replies to me - for both the desktop and laptop as they didn't mention what they had. I told them to come to you folks with any problems and for sure they will be resolved.

Thanks for all the help you people give to us inexperience computer users.

Last evening I turned my desktop off and this AM when I turned it on again, there was the Airplane Mode again. I redid what you told me and it was gone. I was just wondering if this is something I will have to do each time after turning off the computer or do I leave the USB unplugged from my UPS backup?

Keep it plugged in and see if you have to re-do it every time you cold boot. If so, then decide if it is better to pull the USB plug on a cold boot or you'd prefer not to do that.

Thank you, I am also going to check to see if this happens after an update, which I noticed I had the night before. Is there any place here to give you a thumbs up or "Kudos"?

If you look at the bottom right hand corner of any post, when you are logged in, you will see a link word called 'like'. You just click on that once.
