Problem when i upgrade OS

i recently upgraded one of my computers from windows me to windows xp pro. i have dial up connection to aol and it worked when i had windows me, but when i changed to windows xp pro the dial up connection didnt work. when aol searches for the modem, it doesnt find it, but its there. i also had the same problem a few years ago when i upgraded my windows 95 computer to windows 98. does anybody know how to fix this dial up problem?

 

maybe you need to update you modem drivers. when you update your pc some hardware won't work so you have to get new drivers. you should be able to download the drivers from the modems company web site

 

yeah but i cant update the drivers if im not able to connect to the internet. do u no another way to update the drivers?

 

If i were u i would opt for a clean install of xp instead of upgrading, sometimes there's would be left over files and it might lead to corrupted files in your OS. As for updating of modem drivers, before i can direct u to the link, pls provide us with more info like what is the make and model of your modem?

 

amen to that!! your first problem was using windows ME (UGH)

format your hard drive and do a complete, fresh, clean install. winxp will recognize that you have a modem and even walk you thru all the steps to connect to the internet.

besides, you won't have all those left over files hanging around from windows ME.

 

actually the computer isnt mine im doing it for my cousin. i think hes just gona get optimum online anyway so it doesnt matter. but next time i go to his house ill find out the make of the modem.
