Problem with adding hardware again

I thought I had this bug licked, but to no avail. When I try to use the add hardware wizard for Windows XP Pro, I get a "Another device installation is underway, you can only install one device at a time." Problem is, there isn't another device being installed. I cleared/uninstalled any device with a "!" by it on the device manager.

I am trying to plug in my digital camera and have updated the drivers already. When I try to install the camera or get any recognition from the computer, it gives me the following:

This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

I reinstalled the drivers again, but once again without any luck. At least this time the device is showing up on my "Other devices" list under the Device Manager program, but I can't get the computer to work with the camera.

    Any advice?

to me it sounds as if you havnt installed the correct driver for the camera,I would try uninstalling the driver completely "make sure the camera isnt connected to the machine" turn of your computer, reconnect the camera, turn it on,power up your machine, when the add new hardware wizard appears point the add hardware wizard to your manufacturers disk and let it search for the driver for the camera

If this goes without probs you can then install the camera utilities from the disk,if you dont have a disk can you post back with the driver your trying to install and the exact model of your camera :)

Not quite clear on your prob.. have you Uninstalled driver from 'Device Manager' then tried to add camera then driver ?? You say it is being recognised in Device Manager. XP has camera drivers in built as it recognised my Digi Olympus NP and I didn't have to use driver disk.

I did uninstall the drivers, turn off the computer after disconnecting the camera, then reconnected the camera and turned on the computer. The add hardware wizard did not even come up and when I manually activated it, it again said there was another device installation underway.

The computer is "seeing" the device because it is showing up under the "other" title of the device manager thread, but it has a "!" mark by it and is listed as not functioning correctly with the option to uninstall the drivers and reinstall, which I have done twice already again.

    Any ideas with that info?

You may have to manually delete the driver files.

In Device Manager, double-click the item in question, then the Driver tab, then click "Driver Details" and write down the name and path.

Then locate the files in Windows Explorer (make sure you have hidden files and folders showing) and manually delete them.

If it won't let you, then do so in Safe Mode.
