When I go to my computer my C drive does not have an icon anymore. It has the icon of a missing image. When I try and double click it there is a message box that says Please go to the control panel to install and configure system components. The title of the message box is Windows Xp setup. I have not recently installed any new software. Why do I get this message? Is it a virus? It won't let me view my C drive from my computer. I had to use Run from the start menu. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

When you do get into the C: drive via start- run, see if there is an autorun.inf file on the root of the drive.

    Delete it.

An autorun.inf file could also be specifying an icon and overriding the shell icon for the hard drive.
