Problem with cd/dvd drive

My wife's laptop cd/dvd writer doesn't work anymore. Under the device manager it says that the device can't be started. I've tried updating the driver but says it is the most up to date, I've also uninstalled and restarted the computer and then it pops up saying that the driver can't be installed and to contact provider. The computer is an HP G60-230US. The cd/dvd drive is a TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L633M ATA device. I've looked on HP and microsoft websites and can't seem to find anything related to this. The computer is running vista. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey thanks a lot, it worked. I appreciate it, using that microsoft support thing just doesn't work for me, can't ever seem to type in the right stuff for the search field.

Hi

No probs glad it worked and the KB search is a little funky at times, I tend to search for KB articles via Bing or Clusty search engines, but this issue is a known one, tends to if you wish to know the how and why is that various applications that use the CD/DVD drive like burning and video apps, and trying a few of them out can corrupt the filters, so a reset tends to work, may though need to re-install your favoured buring app as its buring apps that in general cause this issue.

Comes about by say testing a few out, or installing a video app or digital camera software etc.
