problem with configuring computer with LAN CONNECTION

    I recently acquired a Hewlett Packard pentium 111 running windows 98se.
    I have installed Grisoft AVG Free. When I try to acquire the virus update from them or from your site the system keeps notifying me this, "FAILED TO FIND DEFAULT DIALUP.
    The system previously belonged to my sister and she ran it on dial-up....How to I get it to make my LAN Connection the default...
    Sometime because of the current configuration, when I try to dowload stuff....I get notified that there is no clear path.
