Problem with cpu being pegged due to Mcshield.exe

I have McAfee Enterprise 8.5 running and it was running fine. Now mcshield.exe runs and the CPU oscillates between 20-30% - up to 95% or more. I tried to go in to Task Manager and it won't let me set the priority from High to any other level. It gives me a Windows message - "The operation could not be complete. Access is denied."

I can't figure out how to turn down the priority through the McAfee Console.

Any ideas how I stop this craziness??????

Since I'm not a McAfee user (or supporter, or fan, or believer), there's not a lot that I can do for you other than to suggest maybe looking at getting different software. McAfee (and Norton to a lesser extent) is famous for being a resource hungry suite of software that will slow down a PC, and it's also known to offer marginal protection. In most cases, the protection it offers is surpassed by most of the top rated free products. But if you're happy with it and it suits your needs, then ignore what I'm saying.

Anyway- check out the McAfee forums link I provided, and maybe search using your own parameters. You can also contact their Tech Support directly by using the options at this link if uninstalling/reinstalling the software doesn't work, or if uninstalling/reinstalling isn't possible for whatever reason.
