Problem with customizing Word

Hello!

I have a problem with Word on a computer. Office 2003 on XP. Since the last complete reinstall of the system, I can't get my layout of Word to stick. Here I mean what tools to view, buttons on how many rows, if ruler should be visible etc. I can change it all to how I want it, but next time Word is opened, settings are back to default.

I've never had this problem before. Settings I've changed have always stayed the way I want them. I've gone through the settings to try to set my prefered layout to default, but no luck.

I have uninstalled Office and reinstalled, problem remained.

Assuming you have tried a " repair" and that didn't change anything. Do you have Acrobat v7 installed. It seems the Adobe add-in for Office can create some of these issues. See the link below and try some of the fixes, maybe #4 ( Method 4: Remove the Adobe add-in from Office ).

Even worse probably... Acrobat Professional. The comp is used in my dad's business, and he needs both word and acrobat. I guess we are lucky though, as we don't get all of those error messages...

Not sure that is the cause, just something to check.

Read this: INFO: Corrupt Normal.dot Causes Errors When Automating Word and follow the procedure for finding normal.dot, changing it's name, and re-starting Word. It may solve the problem.

 

Thank you all for those very interesting links! I'll try them out and see if I can solve the problem! It will be a while before I can do it, going away on hollies now, so dad will have to manage for a few weeks, but I will let you know how it goes when I get back!

Problem solved, at least temporarily... Dad decided he wanted to try Office 2007 beta, so I installed it for him and told him he will have to deal with the problems that comes with it!

Knowing my dad, I'll probably have to uninstall it and put 2003 back on within a week or two, he won't know his way around it! But then at least I will have a way of fixing things. Thanks for the help!
