Problem with desktop icons

    Hi,
    Just yesterday I have started having a real problem with launching any of the programmes from my desktop including Internet explorer. It has become extremely slow. Also the task bar is taking an age to load.
    The only thing I have changed is my Router channel as I suspected interference with my wireless signal.
    Once I am on the net browsing is fairly rapid.
    I am using windows IE 8.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated
