Problem with disk cleanup

Here is a tweak you may be interested in trying,write your own batch file for a cleanup app.

Step 1.
Create a new text file and place the following contents inside:

c:\windows\system32\cleanmgr.exe /dc /sageset: 1
c:
cd \
cd c:\windows\prefetch
del *.* /q

Step 2.
Save the file, changing the extension from .txt to .bat
For this tip's purpose, we will call it clean.bat

Step 3.
Execute the file. This will run the Disk Cleanup program in a special mode which asks what items you will want cleaned when Disk Cleanup performs an unattended cleanup. Check the items you wish to have cleaned up, then click OK.

Step 4.
Right-click on the clean.bat file and click edit. Change the first line to read:

c:\windows\system32\cleanmgr.exe /dc /sagerun: 1

Step 5.
Save the file. You can execute this file in place of running Disk Cleanup, or, to have this program run unattended, run the Add Scheduled Task Wizard in the Control Panel and create a scheduled task using the clean.bat file you just created.

Note: This cleanup script will also clear windows prefetch directory. Often this directory can become cluttered with old appication and a cleaning would free up disk space but it will result in a one time performance decrease and windows has to rebuild the cache with active software afterwards.

I am having the same problem however when I ran clean.bat it just flashed up really quickly and the program closed. I tried to do it again and again however it showed the screen really quickly then closed itself out. What do I do?

That poster (bchivers) hasn't posted in over 2 years, and the thread is over 4 years old so you're unlikely to get an answer from the person who created that batch file.

What exactly do you want to do - clean your hard drive or just compress files?
If it is the latter wouldn't it be easier to save them to external media/drive as that is like up to 10 times cheaper now than in 2005, the date of this thread?

LOL...I wanted to clean my hard drive because my add/remove programs is freezing and I am trying everything that I can to fix it. So I figured if I went to disk cleanup maybe it would help that problem. And I tried this and needless to say that I had trouble with that too.

Moved your question to its own thread.

If you boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) then can you access Add/Remove ok?

Do you have any other issues with other applciations if so what ones and what are the symptoms?

Just noticed your other thread here and very quick look at your logs show you have malware in the Trojan Vundo so should attach your logs to your post in malware forum here as mentioned in the other thread so that the malware experts here can help you.

You may need to slightly rename the names of the logs ie, SASlog.txt to SASlog1.txt as they may not upload twice as you already have them attached in that other thread.
