Problem with email attachments

When receiving emails with attachments from a specific address (Outlook 2003 on Windows 7), the mail appears as in-line text with the attachment in hex, be they docs or PDFs or whatever. This only happens with mail from one address. All other mails with attachments are fine. The sender has reported that a couple of other people have experienced the same problem having upgraded to Windows 7 recently. Is the problem likely to be at my end or the the senders end with their antivirus scanning for example?

    Any suggestions much appreciated.

    Hi

If its only one sender then problem is likely their end, but try a few things as in...

    1. Add them to the safe senders list, steps here
    2. Disable your email antivirus plugin if installed, in Office 2003 you can do that by following these steps (click the COM add-ins steps and then just untick your antivirus application if listed)
    3. Ask them to send the docs or PDFs in a zip file attachment.

OK, thanks for the suggestions. The emails from this source come at a regular time so I'll try disabling my Norton plug-in next time one's due.

I'll check with the sender again. They maintain that they haven't changed anything at their end but I'm not entirely convinced.

    Hi abou27,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

Please let me know which Norton product you have installed and the exact version number. You can determine this by opening your Norton product, choose the "Help & Support" link and then "About".

Also, did you do an in-place upgrade to Windows 7 or was it a clean installation?

    Thank you,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Yep, I did a clean install of Windows 7 and I'm using version 3.0.0.135 of Norton 360.

    Thanks.

    Hi abou27,

Thanks for the clarification. Please manually run LiveUpdate so that you get the 3.5 patch. After LiveUpdate is complete, restart your computer and then run it again, possibly multiple times, until it informs you that there are no more updates available. The version number should read "3.5.2.11".

As far as the problem with the email messages from the specific sender, it sounds like his email client is either not configured correctly, or there is some other problem on his machine that is causing problems with attachments.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Turns out it was completely up to date - got the old man to check the version (it's his computer) and he must have got it from an old print out or something.:-o

I'll speak to the sender again and also my mail server provider, just in case they've decided to blacklist the NFU (National Farmers' Union) - a dodgy bunch as we all know:-D

    Thanks.
