Problem With Excel

I have a problem with Excel. I don’t know what’s causing the problem. I have absolutely no idea how to resolve it. When I type in a cell in Excel my screen goes black for a second or less as if the monitor had been switched off. I had an issue earlier this year where something wasn’t connected properly. So, I checked everything is connected properly and it is. Even when the screen goes black the power light on the monitor to say it is on stays lit up.

I’ve tried typing in a Word document and the problem isn’t repeated. I’ve gone on the Web and have no problems with that. It is only Excel. Every time I start to enter something in a cell the screen goes black for a very short period. It’s more annoying than anything. However, I would like to know what the problem may be and how I go about resolving it.

No! I didn't know it existed.

Excel for Microsoft 365. Plus whilst looking for the version I've discovered it's not just entering data into a cell. If I click on anything the same problem occurs in Excel, but nothing else, not even in Microsoft 365.
