Problem with Graphics Card

    Hi,

I run windows XP 32 bit, 2 Gb RAM, AMD Athlon 6400 motherboard and bought a geForce 9600 GSO graphics card several months ago.

Last night I tried to install some more RAM. When I started the computer back up, it did not load windows. I shut it down and removed the new RAM. The next time I started the machine, there was no video. I could only get video by plugging the monitor back into the chipset on the motherboard. The cooling fan on the graphics card runs, so I know it's getting power

I've tried updating the driver, system restore, and everything else I could think of. Once I booted the machine with the driver disk in the drive- I got video from the card for a couple of minutes and then had a blue-screen crash (no error message, just a blue screen).

On some reboots, the new hardware wizard will pop up and ask me if I know where the driver is for the "new hardware" but trying to install from disk won't work. There is also an "unknown device" in the device manager.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Stogie

    Lol love the edit.

Do a right click on My Computer, select Properties, Advanced System Settings, Environment Variables. After going here under System Variables click new.

    In Variable Name type DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES
    In Variable Value type 1

    Apply, exit, exit

Right click on My Computer again, select Manage and select Device Manager, go to View and click Show Hidden Devices.

Now delete all greyed out entries under the Display Adapters and the Unkown Devices areas.

Reboot (using the add on) and see what happens. Also if your card has two outputs, try the other output.

    Thanks for the reply Drizzles!

The problem has been resolved- I mentioned the problem to a friend today. He asked if maybe I'd knocked the card loose when pulling the RAM- turned out to be the case.
