I have a sony vaio PCG-6C1M notebook WITH WIN XP SP3 INTEL PENTIUM M PROCESSOR 1.70GHZ 512MB RAM. I also have another another serial which is on the laptop screen VGN-S1XP. What it is ive re-installed win xp pro installed all drivers and utilitys from this site and updated from windows update, all has gone well but when i am tring to install the ati radeon mobility 9700 graphics driver also from this site and others it completely crashes / shuts down and when restarting keeps re-booting time and time again. aa blue screen whilst trying to reboot windows appears for a split secong with lots of writing on, i think its saying someting "dumpping something" but i dont get enough chance to see exactly what its saying. ive tried trting other drivers but nothing works. if anyone can help id appreciate it thanks.

In my post ive said that ive installed drivers from this site, i want to correct that because the drivers and utilitys what i installed were direct from sony support sorry about that..

when I selected XP, there is an original drivers package of 30.55MB
    I'd grab that.

Where did you get the ati mobility radeon 9700 driver that you installed?
I've found four downloads but none of those are for your model of Vaio.

the drivers ive downloaded was from sony support and it was the package called VGN-S1XP ive installed all the drivers from that package and all are ok apart from the ati radeon 9700 which is int it. Once that specific driver is installed Im able to goto the display settings i then change the setting from i think its 800x600 to 1024x780 i think it crashes immediatlly and the dreaded blue screen arises which the technical information is as follows

    ****ati2dvag.dll - Address - BF09D800 base at BF05C000, DataStamp 40639b73
    **** kmixer.sys - Address - F5DAD550 base at F5DAD550, DataStamp 00000000

    begining dump of pysical memory

i then have to restart in safe mode to uninstaled the ati driver the restart and all is well but my screen then shrinks to the middle and i have a black boarder all the way round it i go into settings dispaly and i cannot update the settings to improve screen resolution.

I am not able to find a driver for your model of Vaio.

Did you download the full original driver package I listed and open it and look through?

    Try this:
Open Control Panel > Device Manager > Display adapters and double-click your graphics device. Click the Driver tab and click Update Driver.
Windows is quite good at finding drivers from Device Manager.
