problem with internal wireless card

well it's me again coming on back to call upon you computer gods at major geeks to help in my mere mortal tribulations. Once again my sister's laptop (a balance notebook) this thing has an internal wireless card that allow for wireless connection to the internet. she has been using it for about two years now and we have had no real problems we couldn't fix. now she tells me that it isn't working, and when i checked the thing out all i found was a local area connection that said it the network cable was unhooked. usually there is another icon in the network connections that says local area network and that is the one that i repair or reconnect to the wireless network from. but now it is gone how do i fix this. or is there a way i can get the other one to act as a wireless and connect?

 

Hey guys i haven't got any responses so I figure maybe i need to restate the problem. My sister has a computer that has worked pretty ok until now. I was connecting to the internet via a wrieless internet card built into it. she would simply be connected to our wireless network. in the network connections section of the computer's control panel there were always two icons one for a normal connection and one for the wireless. but now there is only the one for the normal connection. what happened to the wireless connection? it is like it just vanished!! should i do a system restore? would that be helpful? could someone please point me in the right direction?

No, I believe i said that in my last post. it used to be there because i've fixed a bad connection before but this time it's gone.
