Hello everyone I have a PS2 mouse that I want to use on my laptop that does not have a PS2 female port. I bought a usb to PS2 female adapter, but my Windows XP Pro laptop does not recognize the new hardware. Also I tried downloading the driver, but that did not seem to help.

    Thanks,

    Keyser

    Hi

Curious... why don't you simply buy a wireless USB mouse? Microsoft Mobile Wireless Mouse 3500 are good, and the USB adapter stores in the mouse.

As to your issue, PS2 connection has to be made before the computer boots... have you tried connecting the mouse and then powering the computer on?

I really like this mouse. It is a rollie ball mouse. I tried rebooting after the driver install and with the mouse and its adapter plugged in, but that didn't do anything

Haha, I haven't used a rollie ball mouse in a long time. Sorry but I'm not sure what else to offer as far as help.

The PS2-to-USB (or vice versa) adapters are iffy at best - not sure why, but my luck using them has been about 50/50.

If it is a standard mouse, you'll have to stick with an optical (light emitting) model. If the optical mouse seems jittery, you can adjust the speed by going to CONTROL PANEL>MOUSE. Also, be sure to use a fabric-top mouse pad (shiny mouse pads or a bare desk service sometimes cause optical mice to not work properly).

    The other option might be

Is it the adapter itself or just whether or not it will work?

    Thanks,

I'm not sure why; however some PCs and motherboards don't work with mouse or keyboard adapters.

Although you may like the old mouse, my advice is to find a USB mouse you feel comfortable with. It's usually worth a few extra bucks to avoid "no name" brands and get a decent brand like Logitech or Microsoft. Here are a few ideas, both wired and wireless:

I have a Microsoft V220 which I believe is identical to that one except that M305 has a very small receiver. I've had the V220 for several years and like it very much. In case you're not aware, these mice are smaller in size than the normal size mouse used with desktop computers.
