I am using a Compaq Presaio V5000 last night i was on it and it was working fine, turned it off.. and then this morning i tried to turn it on and now it was saying it was turned off wrong (which it wasn't) and when i try it start the operating system, it doesn't do anything. I see a glimse of the blue screen.. but nothing else. Ive tried starting it up in safe mode it just doesn't work. I don't know much about this computer because it is my roommates... but now it isn't working... and i'm confused as to why. I didn't change anything, or do anything different. Any help would be appriecated. Thank you.

I'm sorry if i posted this in the wrong place, didn't really know where to post it.

    How old is the laptop?

Have you done any AV scans recently?

When it tells you that it wasn't shut down properly, have you selected "Last Known Good configuration"?

Did you install any new drivers or software the last time you used it?

If you have the Windows CD, try doing a repair on Windows.

ive tried all the settings safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc... none of them work... It just restarts the computer over and over again. As far as i know nothing new has been done... and sadly no i don't have an xp cd, i'm pretty sure if i did this would be easy lol

There is something you can try.

Remove one of the RAM sticks, assuming you have two, and see if it still has the same problem. Could be coincidental that the RAM crapped out, or a RAM slot.

Let us know. I'll be out the rest of the night, but should be back on in the morning.

Use Memtest to test your RAM sticks INDIVIDUALLY for atleast 5 passes.

Make sure you use the CD/DVD bootable version.
