First off, I am new here. So, whats up, everyone? I heard this was an awesome site. :)

Well, onto my problem. :( It has to do with my PC's sound. A while back, it just stopped working, for like a week or so. Then, later in the week that it stopped working, I was watching a video via my PC and it suddenly started to work again. I was like, "sweet" . Then, after a few days it stopped.

And, whats weird is, when I recieve/send an instant message on AOL AIM, I hear a "popping" noise coming from inside my PC tower. A friend suggested it was probably the PC's internal speaker. Because, PC's have one built in them. I don't know.

I am very positive that the problem is not my speakers. When I plug in my walkman into my speakers, the speakers work.

This is a very weird problem, I know. ;)

Now, I am also pretty sure I have a sound device installed and I don't think it has been uninstalled, either. When, I looked at my system properties, I found this. In my sound devices, I have this installed, "Crystal WDM Audio Codec". It says the device is working properly, also. Another thing I have is a "Gameport Joystick", which doesn't even matter in this problem. Then, the last thing listed is, "MPU-401 Compatible"

When I tried to go to, "Sound recorder" it said that it couldn't work beacause a sound device is not installed. Which is weird because, when I look up my sound devices it says I have them installed.

Well, thanks for any help! :)

what kind of sound card do you have?

some things to try is, first make sure your drivers are installed, might try uninstalling them then reinstalling them

make sure you have the proper codecs installed, I use Ace Codec Pack

make sure there aren't any wires near the sound card, sounds weird but it's worked for others

    try a different PCI slot

of course the obvious make sure your volumes are not muted :)

that's all I can think of right now

I guess my sound card is the Crystal WMD thing. Is the sound card, most likely inside my PC?

there are external sound cards such as Creative Labs Exitigy, but I think you would know if you had something like that

download everest ^^ ... open it ... you will see a column of drop down menus on the left, you want to goto>computer>summary ... then look in the right hand window and scroll down untill you see "Multimedia" your sound device should be just underneath .. you can click the link and a tool tip will come up so you can dl the latest drivers for your sound card ... of course it will be necessary to uninstall your current ones before installing the new ones... do so via the add/remove programs control panel

yeah you should reinstall your sound card driver because it may be corrupted or sumthin which causing to stop working ..

use the Everest to find out what kind of sound card you have and then
find the driver for it and then uninstall the orignal driver and then install the one u just downloaded

    then see what happens.

Ok, well I downloaded the Everest program. And, that is an awesome tool to have, I got to tell you!

Well, here's what I found. I guess my sound device is "Audio Adapter Intel 82801AA I/O Controller Hub - AC'97 Audio Adapter"

Everest should provide a link where you can download drivers, namely Intel.

Use the information from Everest together with your operating system and download and install the latest compatible drivers for your sound device.
