Problem with nVidia FX 5600 drivers

This was probably a bad idea, but I have an nividia 5600 FX Ultra. The drivers i used originally, 45.23, allowed me to get smooth performance and framerate in games such as Tribes 2 and Planetside. I decided that I would try to install the latest drivers (61.77) to see if they were better than my 45.23 drivers. Mid installation, I got a warning saying the driver's were unsigned. I ignored this and continued the installation. After restarting, I found that performance was much worse than before.

I tried to uninstall the 61.77 drivers and revert back to my 45.23 drivers. When I rebooted with the old drivers, the performance was still horrible as if I were still using the 61.77 drivers. I tried a system restore and installing other drivers, but they seem to have no effect. I have also tried using the Driver Cleaner program. So I'm trying to figure out a solution other than reformatting (Which I want to do as an absolute last resort) or the expensive one of getting a new card that supports the 61.77 drivers.

Is there also any possibility it may be a virus?

I had that same exact card and believe it or not the best drivers were always a performance boost for me. I know that if you go to the Add/Remove programs thing in control panel you can uninstal the nvidia drivers. Next you should go to the C:\nvidia folder and delete it to get rid of all the nvidia drivers on your computer that were unzipped at installation. Restart the computer then reinstall with the older driver file. Try this first.

I tried doing that, but the performance still takes a big hit.

I've concluded it may not be the drivers, but possibly something else installed. I may consider formatting as I can't find said file, unless I can come up with a solution.

hrm, AA and AF are turned off right? Did you check for heat problems maybe.
Did you try an older driver like the 53.03?

Hey, I have a Pentium 4 laptop running GeForce FX5600 GO! And I cannot find a new version that works. The new 61.77 work, but I manually have to select, and WMP cant play video files worth anything, but still works with games/3d rendering. Blah. Any idea where some drivers are for the Go! for Windows XP?
