Problem with Outlook 2003

Office 2003 installed on laptop running Vista Home Premium 32bit. All the other components of Office work fine (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc). When Outlook is launched, a small message window opens saying something like "Outlook did not open correctly last time; would you like to open Outlook in safe mode?". It doesn't matter if you say yes, or no, the result is the same: the main Outlook window opens but remains empty and immediately (like less than 2 seconds) a small window opens stating "Outlook has stopped working" which then goes to an error reporting window suggesting that I install Windows and/or Office updates (which I tried to no avail). I have attached the error report from the Event Viewer for those of you who care LOL

    Thanks....

:-o rolleyes :innocent I should have mentioned that I have already uninstalled/reinstalled twice. I have also tried the built-in repair feature that opens after Outlook fails to run in safe mode, and that didn't work either even though it reported that it completed successfully.....

I'm not sure if this relevant, but there's something called the "Compatability Pack for the Office 2007 System" listed in Programs & Features. There's also something called "Microsoft Office Outlook Connector" installed. I'm assuming the 'Compatability Pack' allows stuff from Office 2007 to open with Office 2003, but the 'Outlook Connector' strikes me as odd, and since this isn't my personal PC, I'm a bit reluctant to remove it as it may be something important and hard (or impossible) to replace.

    Hi dlb

Outlook Connector I use this and works fine.

Yes on the Compatablity pack, allowing Office 2003, XP to open Office 2007 .docx .pptx etc files

Do you when Outlook does open get any menus? if so then try disabling all add-ons http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP052427821033.aspx?pid=CH063566601033 and see if it opens will all disabled, then enable all Microsoft ones and test then enable the rest one by one till you find the culprit.

If it wont allow you to get to that point check the antivirus app for an office or email scanning component and disable it.

Also when removing Office, if you didnt also use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to check for any reminents and use Ccleaner etc

What version of Outlook connector? I cant find much online about this. I did see on one of the forums i found that said to upgrade the connector to v12.1. Im still looking around though.

I also found something that had a different faulting module DLL. It said to rename the DLL from whatever.dll to whatever.bak and then running the repair tool. The dll name wasnt msncon32 like you have, but the person said to give it a try. everything else was the same. Error id and all.

    Try Halos suggestions first though...

Steve good thought on updating the connector as IIRC mine updates through AU the other week, and maybe worth re-installing it, if its module is causing issue

msncon32.dll logged under faulting module. Probably wouldnt hurt to try.

Nope. I get nothing but a blank window and then in 1 or 2 seconds a smaller window opens on top of it saying "Microsoft Office Outlook has stopped working....". And that's it. I can then choose to use error reporting or not, and if I do use error reporting, I'm told to try to install updates. Which I have tried and all that comes up as an update is IE8. Where do I get the Outlook Connector? If I was to uninstall it, I'd need to reinstall it somehow... where would I find the file msncon32.dll?

So- I uninstalled the Connector and launched Outlook, and it opened up without a hitch! :celebrate So, now I'll try to re-install the Connector and we'll see what happens....

Reinstalling OutConn clean made no difference. When it's uninstalled, Outlook works perfectly; when it's installed, Outlook immediately "stops working....". So, for the time being, OutConn is no longer installed. If anyone can shed some light on what might be going on here, I'd appreciate it. I told the owner of the PC that I'd try to come up with a solution, but for now, they will have to live w/o Outlook Connector.
