It's running Windows 2KPro with all updates. The cd drive went out, so my dad bought a DVD drive. He told me put the Power DVD disk in, and the computer shut off while he was trying to install. Now, whenever the computer starts, it gets through the normal devices and info screens, but when it gets to the 2KPRO startup screen, right as it hits the last bar, the PC reboots. I thought it may be due to overheating with the new drive and all, but it isnt very hot at all. What could be the problem?

One thing I would check knowing he has been inside the case is all the connections. Not just the DVD, but all the inside stuff. Make sure everything is seated and connected.

I was just in it. all the connections are seated correctly. The fan right over the Processor does not work, though. What could cause this?

Loose connection or it's gone. You got to have it running, the computer is probably shutting down to prevent any damage.

Thats what I was thinking. All the connections are as tight as can be. I plugged the fan's power cable into a the side mounted fans power source (it doesnt have a side fan), and it didnt work. Looks liek it's time for a new fan.

Sure sounds like it. But, I think you have located the problem. Good luck. :)

Did you try starting in Safe Mode? It wasn't mentioned and you said a CD drive was replaced with a DVD. Starting in Safe Mode would narrow this down by not loading those drivers and resouces. I don't see it as an overheating problems since the PC hasn't been on long enough to generate much heat.

I tried safe mode, and it did the same thing.
