Problem with "save as"

Normally when I right click on an image from the web and click "save image as" I can save a copy of the image in the selected folder. Suddenly I can't. The process appears to work but the saved file is nowhere to be found.

This was noticed after a momentary power cut switched the computer off for me (no - I don't have a UPS :)).

I had also recently downloaded new versions of Quick Time and iTunes but I am almost certain this problem did not happen immediately after that.

    Any ideas please?

Only happens in Firefox - IE is OK.

Tools, options, Privacy tab, clear now under private data. Make sure cache is selected under settings.

    Thats for Firefox3 anyway.

Un-install and re-install Firefox,(?), if it works in IE.
Un-install / re-install solves lots of problems, usually. Bazza

Close FireFox, locate the file downloads.rdf (using Search or Windows Explorer) which is located in the FF profile. Once found, delete it.

Open FF and try the "save image as".

    I love you Steve! :D

Can you also solve the remaining problem which is that whichever folder I select in Tools/Options/Main/Downloads (or even if I specify "Always ask me where to save files" it chooses the Desktop for the destination. It is probably related to having opened Firefox in "safe mode" and resetting all the user preferences to defaults as recommended on the Mozilla User forum during my desperate struggle.

    Thanks again :)

From Firefox browser select Tools>options>Main Tab
download location can be changed there.

    @Matacumbie> Nice 1:major

Glad you got it working. :)

Sorry I didn't respond to the second question, I forgot to log off when I quit for the night. I am glad that evilfantasy replied with the answer.

Thank's for helping evil, much appreciated my friend. ;)

Thanks to all. The download location problem is not sorted - it is ignoring all settings made in the Tools/Options/Main/Downloads tab about destination location. However, as I always use the same folder for this, once I have used it it once it then defaults to where I want it - so I can cope :)

Try choosing a different download folder, then going back and re-selecting your preferred download folder.

Tried that - nothing seems to affect it! I have even selected "Always ask me where to save files" and it ignores that too :)

Further to the stuff below - when I make changes in about:config these also seem to be ignored - like minimum tab width and the position of the tab close buttons. Any more ideas about what is still screwed up please? :confused
