Problem with security patch

I recently downloaded the q321232 security patch for microsoft Internet explorer v. 6.00.2800.1106. When I open the setup program to install the security patch, it says "this update requires Internet Explorer 6.0 to be installed" I can't install this patch and if i don't my internet explorer will be vulnerable to the Exploit Codebase Trojan (which I had to clean my harddrive for. BUT ON THE BRIGHTSIDE, I saved my important stuff.)

If I have internet explorer 6.00.2800.1106. and an update says i need it to be installed what is going on?!

Help would be greatly appreciated

I guess I usually stick to WindowsUpdate to avoid these hassles, what does that return for you? Unless I missed something?

q321232 is from May 2002, you IF you have been upto date at WU and have SP1 installed that would have made that patch null as it would have been fixed in SP1 or later.

and having a later IE6 than the patch was designed for will throw up those errors

as the Major said have you been to WU?

were did you see this patch as a new one to install?

k thanks for letting me know that. I was just worried about getting another Exploit Codebase Virus, but hopefully i have everything under control
