EMachine running WinXP MCE. I'm running the system file checker, and it is about 80% finished, but now it's asking for the XP Pro CD. So I put in XP Pro SP2, and it responds with "This is the wrong CD. Please insert Windows XP Professional CD2 into your CDROM drive." What the !%&*# is a XP Pro CD2?? I've never even heard of a 2nd CD for any versions of XP.... any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated! THANX!

Hmmm, its running XP Media Center Edition, and you are putting in an XP Pro CD...see a problem?

Yeah- I know, but MCE and Pro are more or less the same (even the product keys are interchangeable) and it asked for the XP Pro CD before I even put it in the drive.... Regardless, I was able to fix the PC's original problem without completing the SFC....

They arent interchangeable, but anyway...when this error comes up, it always ask for the Pro CD, whether Pro is on the machine or not.

Basically, your setup reg keys are hosed.

I don't want to start something, but I've used Pro to repair MCE several times, using the MCE product key with a Pro CD, and haven't had problems. I did this (in each instance) as a 'last-ditch' effort to get a PC running when the MCE CD wasn't available. I've done this maybe 3 or 4 times, and have never had a crash or any type of serious issue. Maybe it's just dumb luck or the PC gods are smiling on me, but it's worked in the end. Maybe not recommended, but it worked..... who knows why ;)

Well, nothing one can learn, if they know everything, right?

Good luck on getting your sfc issue fixed.

Who's claiming to know everything? I came here looking for help- meaning: I didn't KNOW how to solve the problem. I simply related my personal experience, and got attitude... And I did fix the problem. Thanx for your "help" if you can call it that.... I was about to post another problem I'm having, but I think I'll wait......
