You didn't mention which version of Windows, and according to Gateway, you have Vista. Anyway, I'd bet that none of your drivers are installed. Here's some links:
    nVidia Video Driver
    RealTek Hi-Def Audio Driver
    Chipset Driver
According to the Gateway web site, there are two possible network adapters, so I didn't supply a link to it. Install the chipset drivers first, and reboot when they're finished installing. Then install the other drivers. If you still have problems after installing the drivers (restart the PC after installing each driver), go to the device manager and look for any question marks ? or exclamation points ! and if you see any, post what's listed next to each one here and we'll do our best.

... and welcome to Major Geeks! :wave :major

So- you have Windows XP on the PC now? If so, you may be in for a real headache with the drivers. Gateway has NO driver support for XP for that model of PC. You really should try using your Vista disc. The PC was designed and optimized for Vista, not XP. However, if you're determined to get XP working, I'll try to find the drivers for you. But we will need an Everest report:

    Here's your XP drivers:
    NVidia GeForce 6100 Video
Chipset (includes ethernet, SMBus, RAID, and others)
    RealTek HD Audio Driver
UAA HiDef Audio Add-on from Microsoft - KB888111
First, uninstall any drivers you may have already installed. Then install the chipset drivers and reboot when prompted. Install the UAA drivers (also known as KB888111). Then install the sound driver, restart when prompted, then install the video driver, and, again, restart when prompted. That should do it. If you have more questions, feel free to ask!
    Good luck!

Strange the RealTek HD audio driver link I posted above didn't work... try this link. To uninstall any current drivers first, go to Add/Remove Programs (click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl and press Enter) and look through the list for "RealTek Audio Driver" or something similar. If nothing is listed, don't sweat it; also look for any other drivers. They will all have the word "driver" in the program name so they should be easy to find. Always restart the PC after uninstalling drivers...

Don't worry about it if nothing is listed in Add/Remove. Just install the drivers I linked you to in this order:
    1: Chipset
    2: Video
    3: UAA (KB888111.exe)
    4: Audio
    Reboot after each driver install.

    Glad I could help!

(you might want to gather the drivers that I linked you to and burn 'em to CD for future use)
