Problem with video/audio card drivers

Hi all,

I just formatted my HD and re-installed everything, but for some reason i am having issues with my audio and video card drivers.

Audio Card: Sigmatel STAC 975x AC97
The problem i get with this one, is whenever i attempt to run the driver, it says "Device object not present" it then tells me to restart the computer and try again, and after about 4 restarts i realized its not going to work.

Video Card: ATI Raedon Mobility x300
The problem i get with this one is, whenever i attempt to run the driver, it says "INF error, video driver not found" it then tells me to install a standard VGA driver. I cannot find a "Standard vga driver" anywhere.

This is for a Dell Inspirion 6000, and i do not have a warranty left, otherwise i'd be talking to them, not you guys. so, if anyone could help me out on this, i've run into some dead ends and do not want to pay for a warranty again. Please help!

If you were to visit http://support.dell.com, you would find all the drivers for your machine (at no cost!). It sounds to me like you may have the wrong ones.

 

i did visit support.dell.com and downloaded the drivers they told me to download, and they don't work.

 

I see you saying that you "run" the driver. Are they executables you are downloading? If so, make a note of where they are being "installed" to. Most times, the executable will only extract the drivers to a folder, and then you have to point the windows driver installer to their location.

Before I can advise you further on this matter, you'll have to tell me what OS we're dealing with, here! I'm assuming XP, but assumption is the mother of all mess ups, as the saying goes...

 

By "Standard vga driver", they mean a standard VGA driver provided by Windows. This Microsoft reference should help: How To Force Windows to Use Standard VGA Compatible Driver
