problem with video output on S-video out/vga out

We have a flat panel Tv, and when i hook up my laptop to it, via the VGA out on the computer, and everything plays fine except video's in windows media player and win dvd.

it just show's a black screen. but video's on youtube and in quicktime, but not dvd's like id want lol

any help/light on the situation?

 

sometimes going to fullscreen, then out of fullscreen then back into fullscreen works. (i have to do this with VLC & WMP)
