problem with Windows updates

i have had the following update install 7 times and it is still on the list as an
available update.

Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x64-based Systems (KB954430)

To make things worst When I'm in a browser such as firefox the program gets deselected and I'll have to click on the firefox window to reselect my browser.

has took me ages to write this
please help

sorry was having troublew typing so i only put a little info.(on my wifes comp now so i can type freely)

#The OS is Vista Ultimate 64.
it is a recent build so it is trying to get all the updates downloaded as they appear on the windows update list.
i did not get a message to reboot after the first time it installed, i am currently repeatedly rebooting the system to see if it will catch up with the ammount of installs
(i know this has happened to me in the past on win 98)

the problem i mentioned about the browser is posted on the malware threads, just waiting for help with that.
