After a bout with malware ( I seem to be clean now) I was asked if i had gotten Windows updates recently. i have not.
I went to help and support on nthe start menu (XP HOME) and tried. I got a website can't do this message and this error number.
    0x80070424
Upon invetigation, this error seems to be for servers and multi machine networks. I have no server, just one computer.
I wonder if some malware attacked windows update?
I want to be able to get updates. Please help me.

    Same program, different feature.

http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/3189/windowsrepair.gif Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip it to a folder on your desktop.
    • Open Repair_Windows.exe
    • Go to Start Repairs tab.
    • Choose "Custom Mode" and press "Start".
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • In the Custom Mode window, select the following repair options:
      • Repair Windows Updates
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • If asked to reboot the computer for the changes to take affect, make sure other tasks in the program still are not running before accepting to restart.

Tweaking.com totally messed up my computer. It took over 2 hours to get back on the internet after using the "basic" setting. Just my experience with it.

I used the Tweaking tool. I will see if I ever get updates.
I tried to go look at my update history using the help and support on the xp start tab. Can't see the history, cant get the 'go to update ' deal to work. This is still after the tweaking tool.

When I go to update history i get a message that I have never received updates. I HAVE.
Is this some malware i STIL have? All my cleaners say clean, the machine runs good.

Is it that Windows update is able to download and install update successfully, it just is not listing anything in the "Review your Update History" area?

Or are you still having trouble downloading/installing/updating?

I don't know if I will get new updates. i am told some updates for xp came down Tuesday night so more might not arrive for 2 weeks.
I sure do have a problem with the history. Can't access it at all, in one area i am told i never got any updates. i have received and downloaded numerous updates into this computer.

I did have some updates show up last night. No access to my history...

Take a screen shot and attach it to your next post because we have no way of knowing what "a strange text page" looks like until we can see it.

As the screenshot shows, you must be using Internet Explorer to get updates - no other browser will work. You went there with Firefox - I can see that by your title bar.

I tried the URL above in IE. I got error messages. That URL is not valid as written

Try opening this google results page in IE and then clicking on the Microsoft Windows Update entry.

Do yous still get invalid URL?

By using IE I was able to view my history. The browser was the problem. Thanks for the help.
