    ...back from the shadows...
I am looking for a good DVD burning program, I just got a Sony DVD-RW and the software that came with it is Sonic, Well I was able to get one good burn and then the soft ware went to hell. I recently upgraded to Win XP from Win 00 and my main use for the DVD-RW is to have a hard copy of my graphic work. I don't plan on authoring DVD movies at this time I just want to back up my work. I have all of the latest upgrades and no when I try to launch RecordNow! all I get is a red X pop up. I have a copy of Nero 6.3 and tried to burn a data disk but I got an error about the files being to big for the media. Seems nero only wants to use CD's. I want to burn DVD's .

The only reason I went to XP was because Adobe Encore (DVD authouring) works on XP.

Side Note: I really want to trim XP down to the bare- bones, I don't like the fact XP needs to 'call home' every time I restart window$ And my system freezing when I try to shut down is really fraggin' me off. I am starting to regret going XP

Yeah I know. I used WIn 2k for 3 years and never had any problems. This is the first time I had any real issues with my system. Sony couldn't help me and Sonic's tech pages were real vauge. I have been searching the net for some answers and found none that deal with my problem. Shoul I reformat? if so ho do i do it with XP? I am thinking a clean install might be the answer.

    Unwarranted reaction and reply, IMO.

I believe MS fax runs as a service.

    Check here:

    start-run,

    services.msc

    Click OK.

Locate the service and disable it. Then stop it.

Otherwise, it can be removed from add/remove windows components.

A good guide for trimming your services:

Couldn't hurt. Basically the same way you do it in 2k - backup your important stuff, boot from the XP CD and partition and/or format. Good install guide:

Hey thanks, Last night I shut it down with the task manager, I changed the process to disable.
Now if I could find out what SysmonLog is I might be able to fix that too. MAybe that is what is causing my system to lock up on shut down she dosn't do it when I do a restart.

alanc: I'll take a look into those links maybe one of them will tell me how to uninstall Unlead Video Studio. (every time I use add/remove programs it reinstalls it after asking if I want to remove it)

I'm assuming you're referring to "Ulead VideoStudio"?

Check the MANUAL for uninstallation instructions.

This site here will trim down xp to your liking including getting rid of the sevice that call back home and the error reporting option.

Windows xp is actually considered the most stable OS in the WIndows family. just give it a chance and do tweak it:D

Wel this morning (4am) I did a clean install. After i did that I have fewer errors in the event viewer than before.
I saved those links and all I can say is WOW. I think in a few hours my baby is going to scoot faster than it did with Win 2K , All I need to do is get rid of all this bullox fluff.

    GEEKS RULE!
