    here is my problem,
i have an Inspirion2200 and about a month ago my sound went out; i have norton 360 and spyware doctor. i ran scans with them and they found nothing but tracking cookies. I reinstalled windows thinking that would fix the problem, but nothing. I got on dell chat and talked to them, they took control of my computer and reinstalled all audio, video, and chipset drivers and still didn't work, they say that they failed to install and keep giving me a windows error 39. Finally i got on this site and downloaded Avast and ran a scan with it; it found a worm and a trojan, both files are windows audio restore files.I quarantined the files but, i have no clue where to go from there. Is there any way to fix these files or delete them so i can get sound back on my pc?

    Hi,

If you think your having malware issues please read this thread >>> http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 do all that it asks you to do and then make a new post in the malware forum with your results from the tests.

As for error code 39, this is what microsoft has to say.

    Code 39
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

    Recommended resolution

Reasons for this error include a driver that is not present; a binary file that is corrupted; a file I/O problem, or a driver that references an entry point in another binary file that could not be loaded.

Uninstall the driver, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver.

On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

Try this, If it doesn't work let us know.
