Problem wth Multiple screen feature

I am experiencing an issue when trying to use multiple screens with Windows 2000. I have used this feature multiple times with XP. I right click the desktop, go to settings, advanced, then rather than there being a box to check that says "extend my desktop" it gives me the screen with the moniter, tv etc, and you have to push the button to "turn it on". What I need to happen is to have the blank desktop on the second screen, but instead, I get my whole working desktop.

What I am doing is running karaoke, and the moniter is for the lyrics. How an I get my laptop screen and monitor seperated?
