I have two PC’s linked together both have Gigabit network cards and are linked via a Netgear router with a Gigabit switch. I cannot get the data throughput to go above 25% (250Mbs) I have tried various driver settings and have been in touch with Netgear support what use they were (none) and am still stumped.
Can anyone help me get my network running faster. Details of the PC’s and router are bellow.

    Thanks for your help Dave

Check your cabling, make sure its cat 6 and rated for gigabit transmission speeds. Many times its the simple solution.

    Cat-5e will work fine.

I am having similar problems with my motherboard, 680i LT.

Was running at 400mbps (i think) when i installed XP 32-bit, was getting download speeds in excess of 600KB/s at times. Moved to Vista x64 and was still up in the same league (can't quite remember exact speed). Now I am running Windows 7 x64 and I am limited to 100mbps.
The light on the ethernet port is an orangish colour, where I'm quite sure it's usually green (though I could be wrong, don't pay much attention to detail with that sort of thing ;)) and I get a ping of 120, and download speed of ~1.8mb/s on an internet speed test from a server in the same city as me.
Downloads from websites are now locked on just over 200KB/s. I have no idea what could be wrong, and have been googling everything I can think of for hours and none of the solutions that I have tried have worked.

P.S. Sorry if I am hijacking this thread, but we are having similar problems with similar boards, and I am desperate for a fix!!!

Quick edit (wouldn't allow me to actually edit my post). It's a 680i LT board, but i flashed it to the 680i full bios, which is supposed to run better. Though this didn't fix my problem. Also I said XP 32-bit, when it was actually Windows 7 32-bit. Teaches me for posting at 2:30am heh.

If the LAN is onboard, you are always going to see choking on the throughput, vs. having a PCI-X 1gb NIC.

Problem solved for me. I found a thread somewhere that said to just uninstall the nVidia drivers and use the windows ones instead. Took a while to get it right (only uninstall the ethernet drivers, not the whole chipset). Still only shows 100mbps in my connection settings, but download speed is back to the 4.5mbps range. Ping is still the same though... I have a quite old ADSL modem, and probably don't have the proper cabling for gigabit so that probably explains the rest of it.

Cabling is not going to change that your modem only has a 100mbs port, and your speed is less then 10mb from your provider. Giga is great for moving info across a LAN, but does nothing to speed up the Internet.
