Need some help. I had the hd on an old dell 4450 crash and installed a new Maxtor 160. I had some old versions of windows xp from 2002 and replaced it with a copy of xp pro rather than mess with a 2002 version of xp home or xp home service pack 1.

I have two more of the same series of 4450 dells that my kids use.

I am short a few drivers and can not seem to get them to load or find them off the old dell disks. I ran sound blaster and downloaded the new driver for the intel® Pro/100/ve network connector from the intel site.

When I look at the system status I show no yellow marks, no conflicts that I can see.

Everything seems to run except I get the msg when I try to get on line and set up the link sys that the local area connection ( intel® Pro/100/ve network card) is not installed.

What is my problem? Irq shows no conflicts though that has not ment much on old systems.

    Thanks,

    Jim

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers for the network card, and letting Windows re-install them on the next startup? That sometimes works.

You might want to make sure that you have Intel's latest drivers for the NIC handy when you do that. They may be better than the drivers that come with Windows.

Or is the problem that your NIC won't talk to your router? If that's the case, you may need to tweak some settings in your network connections. Your router's manual may give you some info about the settings you need. It might be as simple as making sure that DHCP is enabled -- if your router wants it.
