I'm going to suggest a real left field idea here after reading the referenced thread - you did and you didn't.

Resetting the user to be able to log in probably reset some security identifiers that need to be addressed at the server. I'm betting the company has a simple domain set up that needs some adjusting in permissions for the "new" user.
So the reset had to be done and the security identifiers changing caused the problem which you would have no control over.

We have a similar Quickbooks at the office and after a failure and restoring a back up, I had a problem with user permissions in accessing the server file for one of the users. I ended up removing and reinstalling the Quickbooks client on the user's computer.

Don't know if this will help you or not. Someone with more experience in user permissions and security identifiers would probably be better.
This may point you in a different direction to find some better ideas or help.

As I suspected, it was nothing that I did "wrong", it was the end user's lack of knowledge. Once they realized what I meant by "you need the password that is used to login in to the server where the software/printer is installed", they figured it out pretty quickly.
