I'm trying to create an FTP server from my home using WS_FTP Server and I can't get it going. I have verizon dsl connected to a netgear WGR614 Router. I entered my actual IP from verizon in WS_FTP and the domain name I entered is dsl.verizon.net. I left the port default at 21. When I load WS_FTP server manager it shows that the service is running but that's it. When I try to connect from another computer it can't find the address. I already created users that can access the FTP site as well. I also installed the windows xp component "FTP" and it still doesn't change anything. I'm running windows xp sp2 with their built in software firewall disabled because I'm also running Norton Personal firewall. By the way, I even disable Norton Personal Firewall completely and it still makes no difference. Is there some kind of setting that I need to change? If anyone could help me that would be great. Thank you very much.

dsl.verizon.net is not the domain you need to punch in to access the FTP.

    use your WAN ip address

how do i find my wan IP? I went under ipconfig /all and it just showed me other stuff. I checked under my router admin and under WAN setup it's not there. There is 2 different IP's showing under my domain name server.

ipconfig is only going to show you your PC address. The 2 ip's under your domain name servers are exactly that, name servers, that resolve names. Go to the following site, and it will tell you your wan ip addy:

In order to FTP, you will have to use your WAN IP address. You can't use a name unless your system is listed on a name server somewhere. You can also use a service, such as no-ip, if you really want to ftp to a name, or have a dynamic address.

Also, within your router, you need assign your pc a static internal address, then forward port 21 to that address. Otherwise, your router will get the ftp request, and not know what to do with it.

    Good Luck!
