hey I Was wondering, would anyone know what to do about this? It's in every game I play online. I'm not sure about offline games, I don't play many, but when I'm playing something like warcraft 3, WoW, City of Heroes, anything online the game pauses briefly every few minutes. It's kinda like a hiccup, everything stops briefly, than catches back up into gameplay. I tried getting a new graphics card, as well as doubling my ram but I still get this problem, please what can I do???

Hey. My son had the same problem when he was playing Rainbow 6 on the computer. If a person had dial up and everyone else had cable, the dial up guy would experience the lag you are speaking of. The others would experience a slower connection but not lag. With Halo2 and Xbox, if the host hits stand by it freezes everyone and when he hits it again he comes back into the game and can shoot everyone else since it will take them 30 seconds to unfreeze. Apparently this is why my son and his friends don't play the game unless they are host. Hope that helped you! :D

Didn't see this thread, playing MMORPGS requires alot of RAM, when your computer uses up your RAM it accesses the windows page file which acts like RAM, but the problem is since its much much slower you get those "hickups" because of the writing/reading off of it.

IF you bought a new 3d card which one did you upgrade from? It might be that you didnt really "upgrade".

If you got new ram what type of ram is it and its speed? All ram isn't created equal and the amount of bandwidth they can trasnfer and at the speed they do it is also critical for smooth gameplay.

Also, you can edit your windows page file to be smaller, that way the game is forced to use the available RAM (as long as you have enuff of it). If you don't have enough RAM and reduce your page file you might crash the game with an 'insufficient memory error'.

    Good luck!

a little more info on ur specs would be good!
to me this sounds like a network problem.. IF it only happens when u play online.. so, if thats the case u might want repost this thread in the networking section. if not then its probably a software problem. "game pauses briefly every few minutes" this doesnt sound like ur hardware is not up to the task but more like ur using conflicting or wrong drivers or have some software running in the background, maybe some software that is using ur internet connection and therefore slowing down ur games??
