Problems installing from DVD/CDRW Rom

Am not sure this is the correct forum, but do no really know where to go.

I have an LG DVD/CDRW - 16x/32x10x40. It is jumpered as master on IDE2. There is no other device attached to IDE2. I am using a 18" Vantec Rounded cable. I am running Windows 2000 SP3.

I decided to uninstall the copy of PowerDVD which came bundled with the DVD/CDRW and replace it with the one that came with my ATI since it seemed to be a newer version.

After uninstalling it, I ried to install the copy that came with the ATI card. It gave me a error message:

"The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be installed. (0x10000)"

So I tried installling the previous one and it gave me the same message.

I tried all four fixes proposed here and none of them worked.

I managed to install it by copying all the files in the CD into the hard drive, and the install went without a hitch.

Worried that there may be a problem, I tried a few other installed CD's.

The others seemed to work fine but when I placed the driver/utility CD which came with my motherboard it gave the error message

"Privileged Instruction"

Copied the driver CD of my motherboard on the hard drive and it works fine.

This problem just started recently. Any idea what the problem may be.

 

I think it may be some kind of rights problem with referrence to the DVD/CDRW. I ma installing as administrator. However it wont allow an isntall from the DVD/CDRW.

It will allow the install if I copy the file into my hard drive.

IT WILL ALLOW INSTALLATION FROM THE DVD/CDRW provided I go thorugh the Control Panel ----> Add Remove Programs ---> Add New Programs ---> CD or Floppy.

Strange.
