Can anyone help? I'm can't move copy or paste files from one folder to another or onto any media or removal hard drive. Can't find any viruses etc using Avira & Iobit 360. Files all open & save ok. I've restored back to various dates. I'm running Windows Vista V6 Sp2. I downloaded Windows Fix-it. This temporarily fixed problem but it's returned, ahhhh.

Do you have, or can you borrow a Vista installation disk? If so type sfc /scannow in the Start Search box. This checks and corrects where necessary any missing or corrupt system files, which does sound like the source of your problem.

    Hi

What if any error messages do you get when you try and copy files?

Can you boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and then see if you can copy files, if you can then disable with StartupCPL all of your startups and then reboot into Normal Mode and see if you can copy files, if you can then enable one startup at a time until you cannot copy files and then the last application enabled is likely your culprit (please name it).

Could also create a new user account to test copy, paste and move.

Is this also any file, or just large files?

Thanx to you both for your replies. I've tried sfc /scannow twice, it hasn't made a difference. Have same problems in safemode. I've disabled all startups & that didn't help either. I don't get any error messages. Just a ping when I click paste but no action. I've tried making a new user account but that's not working either. I get a prompt about needing to be a administrator & click continue but that does nothing. If I could back up all my work, photos & music etc to my portable harddrive I would reinstall windows but I can't so afraid to do anything too severe without being able to backup all my hard work. Any more suggestions?

A few basics would help then, What OS and service pack? Are you the only user? And how about posting a pic of the Security tab of one of the non-receptive folders? Right click the folder > Properties.

I'm the only user. Had set up my kids but have since removed them (about a year ago maybe more). Windows Vista V6 Sp2. I've randomly tried a number of files, I've various types, as I'm a print designer working from home. Attached is a screen shot. Thanks again. Capture.JPG

Thanks. Does it read the same when you click the second and third users?

Same problem for me...only not files, it's ANYthing...well, copy/paste works but seems to expire in 30 seconds or if I do ANYthing other than proceede directly to the "paste." (WIN 7 x64. Ran sfc /scannow, no problem. No error messages)

Greetings Earthling. Thanks but that appears to be a .vbs file for XP, not Win7 x64 Home Premium

I still have the problem but it's so intermittent I am still unable to duplicate it.

No error messages, just a bell sound when trying to paste something that seems to have disappeared off of the clipboard.

    Open the file.
Go to menu bar (or use File, Save As) Browse to the directory you want to place it and save it there? If you want to copy using that method, make a small change to the file & use the above method. Go to where you saved it, then unchange, That should save the original in original place & copy in the new place.

This is just a way to do it, not a fix. Sorry I can't help you there.

ralph. indeed. that works but does not fix the intermittent broken copy/paste issue.

    thanks for your thoughts

Unload BufferZone and your computer will act like it used too. If you don't have BufferZone installed then disregard this.

No BufferZone here. I do have SandbixIE. Will try turning it off and perhaps uninstalling it, though I had SandboxIE long before this problem cropped up. (I think). Thanks for the idea...

I tried BufferZone (a sandboxing program) for a while and it just made doing menial things so convoluted and complicated that I wound up uninstalling it. Everything that I saved or pasted wasn't saved or pasted where I thought it was, but a shortcut was placed there instead that led to yet another location where it was virtually saved (or something like that). It drove me nuts. Slowed the computer quite a bit as well.

Thanks again. With SandboxIE closed, I still appear to lose whatever was placed onto the clipboard.
