    This is literally driving me nuts now. I had my LG GSA-4081b DVD writer for a few months now, and it's been reading and burning CDs/DVDs with no problem.. but recently when reading any media the activity LED on the drive starts flashing, as you'd expect.. but then abruptly stops. Sometimes ejecting the media and then putting it back in works.. but it takes quite a few attempts sometimes. This led me to believe it's a hardware fault, but it only started happening when I installed the new ASPI 4.71 drivers.

    I used the aspichk.exe program to check it all installed ok.. but 2 files didn't update to version 4.71 (WINASPI.dll and WOWPOST.exe) and the aspi-check program reported that there was a problem.. So I searched around and found an older version of the ASPI drivers (4.60) and they installed fine. Thinking this was the problem solved, I went to burn a DVD.. after a few attempts to get the drive to actually recognise that a DVD was in the drive, I started my burn session, and all was going good.. until this happened.

    Code:
    19:22:41	#24 CDR -1039 File Writer.cpp, Line 304
    	Focus or tracking error

    19:22:41	#25 Text 0 File ThreadedTransfer.cpp, Line 229
    	all writers idle, stopping conversion

    19:22:41	#26 Text 0 File ThreadedTransfer.cpp, Line 223
    	conversion idle, stopping reader

    19:22:41	#27 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 1970
    	EndDAO: Last written address was 1753119

    19:22:42	#28 Text 0 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1699
    	Set remaining time: 0:00,000 (0ms) -> OK

    19:22:42	#29 Text 0 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1699
    	Set remaining time: 0:00,000 (0ms) -> OK

    19:22:42	#30 Phase 38 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1841
    	Burn process failed at 4x (5,520 KB/s)

    So.. again I thought this was probably a hardware error, but because i've never really had to deal with a problem like this before, after reading the log something made me think it might have been a driver issue again.

    Code:
    Existing drivers:

    File 'Drivers\CDR4_2K.SYS': Ver=5.3.2.31, size=58000 bytes, created 12/06/2004 13:00:30

    I tried burning a second DVD today and it failed around the same time (something like 70~80% through) and now it barely reads CDs/DVDs again. I have upto date firmware, working drivers.. Am I missing something guys or is this definetly a hardware fault? Obviously I want to exhaust all possible solutions before buying a new drive.

    Sorry for the double post, but i'm desperate for an answer here.

    Thanks.

    No luck burning with that program. I attached the error messages I got from it incase that gives any indication of the problem.
