Problems... right after virus/spyware check?

I use a Dell Inspiron 5100, 512 MB RAM, 2.4 GHz Intel.. blah blah blah. I've stumbled across a problem that needs serious attention, at least i think so.

My computer runs fine normally... however, if I run my series of virus/spyware check programs (Norton Antivirus, Ad-aware, and Spybot), it goes crazy. I usually run these checks in safe-mode, though I get the same problematic results running in normal or safe.

What happens is that after I run the scans and the computer reboots, it has issues logging in. It loads on system files to start (which I just recently found out was because something changed the msconfig for the bootup) and then sort of freezes up, but then after a good 5 or so minutes... it begins to load everything else. However, after this akward boot, it disabled many things, such as my ability to get online  .

It now shows a "Selective Startup" with Process SYSTEM.ini file and WIN.ini file checked. I looked in the services as well (didn't touch anything.. too scared) and found that many said "Stopping". I'm not sure exactly which of the three programs, or combination, is causing this problem... but I was wondering if anyone has any solutions?

    Thanks,
    Josh

First i would say dump norton it's a too much of resource hog and get avg anti virus free edition, second what did you put on your computer or do before all this trouble started? (you might need to reinstall your os).

Would try somethings before a reinstall....
    1) Try a system restore to a date before these problems started.
    2) If that seems to work ...Panda online active scan

    3) If you are finding nasties on the scan ....dump norton (stop the program from running, then do an uninstall, then run this:Norton uninstall tool

    4) then download this and install:
    Avg:

Thanks a ton for the quick replies, I'm getting rid of Norton as we speak and I'll try the other things afterwards. I'll keep you all posted. Oh yea, as for what caused the problem.. no idea. =S I don't remember when this started occuring either T_T

    Thanks,
    Josh

Well, after getting rid of Norton... installing AVG... running it and such, everything seemed fine!

Then I tried running SpyBot and rebooted after, everything was still ok.

After that... I tried running Ad-aware again, not ok. After running a scan, it showed 1 critical object.. a cookie... so i said to delete it. Upon rebooting, i ran into the same problems I had been in the past *system restore*

System restore saves the day again.. but then I began wondering why it would mess up after deleting a cookie? So i tried deleting the cookies straight from the browser... and it worked, later I ran another ad-aware scan showing 0 critical objects.

Seems like all is well but... does anyone have an explanation for the cookie issue?

    Thanks,
    Josh

Oh noes? I scanned w/ Panda again and it came up with only 1 "infection"... the TribalFusion cookie data miner?

Assistance on how to get rid of it please! :)

    Thanks,
    Josh
